Paintball Masks: A Safety Must

Paintball masks are the most important piece of safety equipment you will need before playing paintball. There are other pieces of safety gear such as chest and throat protectors and elbow and knee pads, but none are as important as the mask. Getting hit in the face or eyes with a paintball is a very dangerous proposition, which is why protection is so important and required by paintball fields everywhere. You'll need to a mask that is made especially for the sport of paintball. These masks can be purchased anywhere paintball gear is sold.

When shopping for a mask, it's important you get the right features and the right fit. First, try on the mask and make sure you can see not only out of the front of the goggles but the sides as well. It's important to have a full range of vision when playing paintball to avoid sniper ambush. If you wear glasses, make sure you try the mask on over top of them. Many masks will accommodate eyeglasses just fine. The eyes aren't the only part of your face that need protection. Your mask should also protect your ears while still allowing you to hear properly.

The rest of your face should also be protected by your mask, but you should be able to speak and breathe without a problem. You will want to choose a mask that has a visor, so that you'll be protected from the perils of rain or bright sunlight. The visor should be adjustable so you can get the optimum level of protection. Another consideration you'll need to think about when mask shopping is that of fogging lenses. Breathing, which of course we all do, can make a mask fog up unless it has thermal properties. Thermal lenses are designed to prevent fogging from occurring. You may also find masks that offer anti-fog properties.

Finally, make sure the mask you choose is the right fit for your face. The mask should fit snugly without being too tight, and not irritate or chafe the skin.
