Understanding Paintball Strategy

Paintball is a sport that requires both brains and athleticism. You don't have to be in perfect shape to play paintball, but you should be reasonably fit. After all, you will be running, crouching, shooting and performing other activities during the course of a game. You must also have some grasp on paintball strategy. First, it's important to understand the basics of the game you're playing. The most common form of paintball is classic rec-ball style. This involves playing a variation of Capture the Flag.
In this variation, players are put on two teams. Each team has a home base, and a flag. The object of the game is to capture the opposing team's flag and return it to your home base. If a player is shot with a paintball from the opposing team, they are eliminated from the game. There are other variations of this game, such as Speedball, which are popular also. Speedball uses only one flag, placed in the center of the field. Hence its name, the games only last for a short duration, usually between five and twenty minutes.
When shooting your marker, accuracy is important. Before even starting a game, you should have some idea about how far your marker can shoot and how accurate it is. There are different shooting techniques that can be utilized during the course of a paintball game. Snap shooting is one such technique that is done when firing from behind a bunker. The idea is to pop out from behind your bunker to shoot your opponent without getting hit yourself. Another part of good strategy is providing cover for teammates, and having them do the same for you. If you've got someone covering you while you're moving, you're less likely to be hit.
Paintball strategy is something that takes lots of practice and differs from game to game. You can learn more about different techniques and strategies by studying instructional materials. For example, there are lots of paintball videos and DVDs out there that demonstrate lots of strategies and even practice drills. You may also want to check out some paintball magazines. Finally, always be sure to communicate with team members to determine the best strategy for each particular game. Clear communication between teammates can mean the difference between victory and defeat!
