A Guide to Preparing for Paintball Tournaments
![]() |
Paintball tournaments represent the serious side of the sport. Players on tourney teams are definitely more serious than your average weekend warrior. The equipment used is often more expensive and advanced, and the stakes are higher. Depending on the tournament, teams might be competing for cash and prizes. For many, the glory of victory and the bragging rights that go along with it are reward enough. There are tournaments held all over the world, so it's likely you'll be able to find one somewhere close to you.
If you want to participate in a paintball tournament, you will need to be on a tournament team. Players are required to try out for tournament teams and are chosen on the basis of their various paintball skills. You may be asked to demonstrate different shooting techniques and answer questions about the sport. The candidates deemed most skilled are the ones that make the team. There are some costs involved in joining a team. You will need to purchase a team uniform, and of course some good paintball equipment.
Many tournament paintballers are hard core when it comes to their paintball gear. You'll find many of the markers being used in tournaments cost more than $1000. Not to say that it's required to use an expensive marker. However, you should try to find the very best quality marker for your price range. Your team will probably have a certain brand and color paintballs that they use. Tournaments require a certain type of paintballs as well, to keep things regulated and eliminate the possibility of cheating with easy-wipe paint. Other gear you'll want to buy includes safety gear including a good mask. And, there are other accessories like hoppers, loaders, plugs and haulers that you might also need.
Another part of preparing for paintball tournaments is practice. Lots and lots of practice! Your team leader will let members know when practice times are. It's important that you attend each and every one of them. Your team's performance on the tournament field is directly related to the amount of practice your team gets. Your team leader will probably assign homework such as practice drills to keep everyone's skills sharp.
